Marissa encourages better collaboration with residents

The recent survey of residents also showed poor satisfaction with the Nutrition and Food Services department as a whole. The survey findings indicated that residents do not believe their input is valued.

Marissa begins to develop a plan to improve communication with the university residents (5.02e).

As a first step, Marissa asks the residents to form a Food Committee, which is a small group of residents who volunteer to represent the opinions and input of all the residents (5.02j, 5.02p). The residents are happy about this opportunity and soon form the Food Committee.

The Food Committee has monthly meetings and conducts focus groups (interactive public discussions) every few months to discuss ways that the Nutrition and Food Service department could best serve the residents (5.01f).

To further improve communication and encourage input from residents, Marissa encourages residents to come and speak with her on a daily basis so that she can gather input firsthand (e.g. “the broccoli today was overcooked, but the added garlic was very good”) (2.01b, 2.01d, 2.04h, 2.04n).
